In honor of the groundbreaking exhibition, American Sabor: Latinos in U.S. Popular Music, showing now through September 20, the Museo Alameda is hosting it's last of three all-day concert events.

Rock y Roll Radio attended the June 20th Sabor Music Fest and had a really great time. Got to see Brownout, who is releasing their new CD "Aguilas and Cobras" on September 15th, perform and enjoyed their Latin funk sound and the ambiance that is the Market Square.

This last event promises to be the biggest and the best of the series with several of Rock y Roll Radio's favorite bands performing.

The performing artist for the fest are:

Bombasta - A San Antonio and Austin, Texas favorite. Their Cumbia, Latin and Fusion beat will have you dancing in the street.

Pinata Protest - Also a San Antonio and Austin, Texas favorite. If you like Punk with a Mexican in your face flair, Pinata Protest is your band. Even if you don't like Punk, these guys will entertain you with their energy and charisma. "Puro Pinche Punk"

Girl In A Coma - Again a San Antonio, Austin, Texas and national favorite. Their music combines rock, rockabilly and punk with a dark and sober feel. Girl In A Coma's intriguing stage presence and music will mesmerize you into a euphoric "Coma."

Ernie Garibay and the Sleeping Cats - Ernie is a San Antonio icon and is a respected and admired music veteran. The Sleeping Cats play a combination of Old School rock and oldies with a blend of rhythm and blues. If Ernie is playing, you know it's a party.

Stefani Montiel - Is a San Antonio based Tejano Artist although she does also perform Latin, Salsa and R&B.

Grupo Fama - From Houston, Texas is a Regional Mexican and Spanish Pop band.

There's a lot of excellent and diverse music and you'll definitely find a band to suit your musical taste.

I strongly recommend that you attend this last and historic event because it may not happen again or anytime soon.

And, if you haven't been to San Antonio's Market Square, you have to make it a point to visit the Square. There are restaurants and food booths, small shops that sell all varieties of Mexican curios and articles in air conditioned facilities or you can just sit in the Square and enjoy the ambiance. And don't forget to visit the Museo Alameda "American Sabor" exhibit.

Bombasta Plays American Sabor & Flamingo Cantina

One of Rock y Roll Radio's favorite bands, Bombasta, will play at the Museo Alemeda American Sabor Music Fest on July 25, 2009 in San Antonio's Historic Market Square. Rock y Roll Radio traveled to San Antonio on June 20th to check out the Music Fest and really had a great time. I got to see Austin's Brownout play at one of the stages. Brownout always puts on a great musical show and always gets people to move or dance. If you haven't been to San Antonio's Market Square, you have to make it a point to visit the Square. There are resturants and food booths, small shops that sell all varieties of Mexican curios and articles in air conditioned facilities or just sit in the Square and enjoy the ambiance. And don't forget to vist the Museo Alemeda "American Sabor" exhibit.

"American Sabor: Latinos in U.S. Popular Music" is the first interpretive museum exhibition to tell the story of the profound influence and impact of Latinos in American popular music. The exhibition focuses on five major centers of Latino popular music production in the post-World War II United States-New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, San Antonio and San Francisco-which represent the diversity of Latino music.

The Music Fest is Free. There are 12 acts and three stages. Hours are 2:00-11:00 PM. Parking is available around the Market Square for a nominal fee. Parking across the Square was $5.00, which is average price. Although the weather was warm, there is ample shady spots to sit and cool off.


If you can't go to San Antonio for American Sabor on July 25th, catch Bombasta on August 8th at the Flamingo Cantina in Austin, Texas.
