Arhrur Yoria: How Did We Miss This Incredible Talent?

Recently saw Arthur Yoria at Momo's, World Music Night sponsored by KUT 90.5 FM/kut.org presented by Bemba Entertainment and was just blown away by his creativity, music and style. How is it that Rock y Roll Radio did not know about this incredible talent?

To be honest, Rock y Roll Radio did know about Arthur Yoria. Caught Arthur's performance at the Flamingo Cantina in Monoceja's debut performance in August. Monaceja could be described as a two man experimental, Euro-pulsating beat, fusion rock band. Eduardo "Edo" Fajardo, of bands Edo and Executive Life is the other half of Monaceja.

Arthur is not new to music but somewhat a new solo act to Austin. He is an accomplished Houston based bilingual singer/songwriter, nominated Songwriter of the Year in the Houston Press Music Awards since 2001. "He combines guitar and vocals with samples, loops, and digital effects. The tracks that are heard live are recorded immediately on stage and are then played under the current live track until that track too becomes a background layer." And now that you know about Arthur Yoria, catch his shows, get his music and Rock y Roll Radio promises you won't be disappointed.

View the two great videos by Austin Vida to get a feel of Arthur's music and creativity.

El Tule has a new CD and wants to celebrate the event with family, friends and the fans. Volumen II has Cumbia, Salsa and Merengue tunes that promise to make this event a dance party.

Rock y Roll Radio has been to numerous El Tule performances and thoroughly enjoys their music and energy. Volumen II definitely takes El Tule to the next level. The band sounds tight and musically the band projects the Latin soul that Cumbias, Salsa and Merengues were meant to have. This body of work is going to open new doors of opportunity for El Tule so be a part of it by attending the CD Release Party and buying the CD.

To give you an idea of what to expect, here's a video of El Tule performing :"Silver and Gold" at Xemumba 09.

Dj Chorizo Funk will be spinning the tunes as well. Eddie Campos aka Chorizo Funk specializes in "Funky" Funk and you can catch him at all the major events and venues. Check him out!

The end of the year, 2009, is closing fast, so El Tule CD Release Party is one of the events to attend to close out the year. See you there.

Angel Ferrer's "The Daylight Sessions" Emerges With Soul

Angel Ferror
, no stranger to Austin's music scene, has put together a group of talented musicians to form The Daylight Sessions. Angel Ferrer has a rich musical history and in Austin, Texas that history includes the groups Ill Camino, Vallejo, The Chris Perez New Project and now The Daylight Sessions. When Rock y Roll Radio researched Angel to find out more about him, other than the bands he was part of, there wasn't really any good comprehensive information. Again Austin Vida, Austin's premier and comprehensive music web source, has provided an exclusive and very intimate interview with Angel Ferrer. After reading the interview, I can say that I now know Angel Ferrer more thoroughly and also know his musical goals. I encourage you to read the interview because you'll be hearing a lot of buzz about Angel in the very near future.

I went to see Angel Ferrer's The Daylight Sessions last night at Quinn's in Round Rock, Texas. I really didn't know what to expect because I had purposely not listened to any of the group's music. To my amazement, I was blown away by the very soulful and sensual R&B sound that the band was producing. The band was solid and played as one soulful unit, just flawless. The Daylight Sessions is comprised of: Angel Ferrer-Guitar and Vocals; Alberto Ferrer-Bass; Jeff Hartsought-Drums; Robert Belt-Guitar and Cristina Soto-Back up Vocals. Angel Ferrer and Jeff Hartsough are very approachable and friendly guys and love what they do.

The group performed "All I Want To Do," "Cool Touch," plus a souful version of "Summer Breeze" a 1972 song by Seals and Crofts and other rock based songs.

You can see The Daylight Sessions at Lucky Lounge on November 7th plus an Ill Camino Reunion set.

Rock y Roll Radio ranks Charanga Cakewalk as one of the best bands in Austin, Texas and dare say the universe.

Austin Vida, Austin's premier music web source, captured Charanga Cakewalk at Momo's on September 29, 2009. Rock y Roll Radio was at Momo's that night and maybe you'll see me in the appreciative crowd.

Mexic-Arte Museum "Viva la Vida Fest 2009" - Latest Update

Mexic-Arte Museum has added more information to their Viva La Vida Fest 2009 page. The 26th Annual Dia De Los Muertos celebration is on October 24, 2009 in Austin, Texas and is the largest and longest running Day of the Dead celebration in Austin.

Rock y Roll Radio, internet radio, is excited with the musical line up for Viva La Vida Fest 2009. The bands playing for the event are:

Charanga Cakewalk - is lead by Michael Ramos, and recently added Brian Ramos of Kanko, a local Austin band. Both individuals, along with the band members, make exceptional music. You can describe their sound as a combination of Mexican Cumbia, Mexican Folk and Lounge music. Rock y Roll Radio has seen Charanga Cakewalk too many times to count but once you get the Charanga fever, you can't shake it off. You'll know you have the fever when your feet involuntarily start to dance and your body starts to sway at the sound of Charanga Calkwalk magic.

Bocastria - is an established Austin band that plays "original fusion of Latin rock and Tejano music." The band has been together for three years and has an EP "Enter the Groove" and their first full length album "Texicana." Bocastria has been recognized as one of the Top Latin bands to emerge from Austin, Texas and on May 17, 2007 the City of Austin proclaimed it "Bocastria Day." Once you hear Bocastria, you'll think that one day wasn't enough, everyday is Bocastria day.

Peligrosa All-Stars DJs - is group of very talented DJ's. The DJ's are Hobo D, Manolo Black, Orion and DJ Dus. Rock y Roll Radio has seen Peligrosa perform numerous times at various venues and events. This guys are everywhere! They do have an exceptional playlist of Latin music and mixes and they know what their audience likes.

Tiburon - is an Austin based Salsa/Latin Jazz band that "brings to you the true sound of Salsa Dura. This group interprets all genres of Latin music, blending the styles and rhythms of Afro-Cuban and Puerto Rican roots music with the excitement and improvisation of American Jazz. By combining the hot sounds of salsa, rhumba, mambo, bolero, cha-cha-cha, funk and jazz, Tiburon always presents fresh elements and new musical prospectives with a new energy all it's own." Can you say "Sabor!"

Mary Welch y Los Curanderos - Los Curanderos, the musical healers, "is a Latin Variety Band with many original songs in English, Spanish & Portuguesa written by Mary Welch (Vocalist, Songwriter), along with other traditional Latin and English tunes. They also have covers like disco & top 40 with a Latin beat and some Spanish lyrics. Good for what ever it is that ails you."
This musical group has also been recognized by the City of Austin with May 8, 2008 proclaimed as "Mary Welch y Los Curanderos Day" and The State of Texas House of Representatives issued a Resolution, H.R. No. 2078, honoring Los Curanderos as a "valued member of the Texas music community."

Manuel "Cowboy" Donley - "is the grandfather of True Tejano! Manuel Donley led a big band Latin orchestra in the 1950s and picked up his nickname by stepping out from behind the podium and carrying his guitar to the front of the stage like the cowboys... Donley serves up a spicy, thoroughly danceable combo platter of rancheras, waltzes, boleros and ballads." Mr. Donley has a rich musical history and is considered an elder in the Austin and the Texas music community. Rock y Roll Radio looks forward to seeing and hearing a Texas legend perform and history being made.

Last Week Was Better - a band of four guys from San Antonio who play Progressive, Indie and Pop. They're relatively new on the scene but are steadily building their fan base and from what Rock y Roll Radio has heard so far, they have a good sound and music. XEMUMBA 09 Un Festival de Musica Latina October 24, 2009

Xemumba 09 un festival de musica latina presented by bembaentertainment will take place on October 24, 2009 at Kenny Dorham's Backyard in Austin, Texas.

"Xemumba \SHEH-moom-bah\ is a celebration of the many styles of music that Latin and South America has given us. This is a festival founded by me, Brandon Badillo, in September of 2007. I created this event to not only bring these different styles of music together for an evening, but to raise money for my Grandpa, Francisco, in his fight against cancer.
With just minimal advertising, Xemumba proved to be a great success with over 300 ecstatic attendees on that very special evening. I had no excuse for not keeping Xemumba around so I decided to make it an annual event and watch it grow.
This year Xemumba will take place on a cool Saturday, October 24th at Kenny Dorham's Backyard from 10am - 12am. Xemumba will bring Latin and South America to people in a time when it is just too expensive to travel. Those attending will experience over 10 performances ranging from Samba to Afro Cuban to Cumbia to Latin hip hop and many more.
Xemumba will continue to give back as it did for Francisco just two years ago. This year and in years to come, xemumba will donate a percentage of the proceeds to non profit organizations. This year's beneficiaries are Lupe Art, National Hispanic Institute and People Fund.

Rock y Roll Radio supports all three beneficiaries but is very familiar with the National Hispanic Institute (NHI). The NHI is an organization, both national and international, that gives high ability high school Latino students the opportunity to develop leadership skills through three programs: Young Leaders Conference (YLC) The Great Debate - focuses on communication as a powerful tool of leadership; Lorenzo de Zavala (LDZ) focuses on the organization and management of power as a foundational tool of leadership; The College World Series (CWS) - focuses on the power of positioning as foundational tool of leadership. Other programs for graduating seniors and college students include Mexico Language Program and John F. Lopez Summer Intereship.

The award winning Austin Chapter of NHI is very active and vigorously recruiting new members. If you're an Austin, Texas and area high ability high school Latino student, please contact the Austin Chapter of NHI for details. For other parts of the country contact the NHI office. There are many notable NHI alumni in Austin and nationally that continue to serve and contribute to our future Latino leaders.

Please support all three beneficiaries by attending Xemumba 09.
